Thank You Vivien – Why A Business Is Only As Good As It’s Team

I’m finally starting to get back into my usual routine.  It took me about a week to catch up and recalibrate my schedule.  You see, for two weeks I had the privilege of being able to walk in our fabulous receptionist Vivien’s shoes while she took a well deserved vacation.  When Vivien told me about her exciting vacation plans, I assured her that I would cover for her and handle the front office responsibilities.  What an interesting experience that was.

My new journey of the past year has taken me on many great adventures in teaching and business development and I am loving every busy minute of my life.  What I do miss, however, is the day to day contact with the patients that I had come to know and love.  Being at the front desk for these two weeks allowed me an opportunity to re-connect with patients that I had not seen or talked to for quite some time.  I was excited every day at the prospect of catching up with old “friends”.  It made me realize that for me, choosing dentistry as a career was not only about the hands on care that I was able to give…it was also very much about the relationships that I made with each of our patients.  I experienced again how dear each of our patients is to me and how appreciative I am of their loyalty to our office and the trust that they place with each of us at Family Dental Care Park Ridge!

I also gained a new appreciation for Vivien.  Anyone who has met Vivien in person or over the phone, already knows how her kindness and willingness to help make her so special.  It wasn’t until I spent a couple of weeks walking the walk in her shoes, however, that I realized just how valuable Vivien is to Family Dental Care Park Ridge… and to me.  Somehow, with the patience of others and my desperate perseverance I was able to muddle through those two weeks and pull it off without too much collateral damage (although the jury is not out on that yet)  The awareness that I gained as to how important a well organized, finely honed front desk is to the success of a business was invaluable.  I saw that being able to multi-task and juggle and perform magic  were just a few of the many job requirements for a smoothly operating office.  I was so moved by what I learned about how each of our staff contributes to the effectiveness of our office when I was working the front desk that I wrote about it at Social Media DDS.

I am so lucky to work with such amazing and caring people at Family Dental Care Park Ridge and am grateful for opportunities like Vivien’s vacation that remind me just how special they all are!
